The world premier of this Medley of Civil War Songs was held in Manassas, Virginia near the Manassas Memorial Battle Field of that war.
A chamber orchestra consisting of a full Flute Choir, a String Orchestra, Trumpet, F Horn, Oboe, and Field Drums and Orchestra Bells was used to perform the medley.

This arrangement does not require that exact instrumentation to work. Substitute parts are included here so Alto Sax can replace the F Horn part; Bb Clarinets can replace the Alto Flute parts, and Bass Clarinets can replace the Bass Flute parts. Also, orchestral snare and bass drum can be used instead the field drums that create the sound typical for a Civil War era instrumental group.
The melodies are the most popular authentic Civil War Soldier’s Songs sung at the time, often in the tents on the battle fields at night. The arrangement is by Bob Walters, former staff arranger for the U.S. Air Force Band (Ret).
