This was written for players from the Marine, Army, and Air Force Bands to play at the Lincoln Memorial for an Easter “SonRise” service. These services attract 5000-6000 people each year. A guest artist such as Larnelle Harris joins the choir and essentially Brass Orchestra (with keyboards, bass, timps, etc.) for an exciting morning as the sun rises over the Capital Building and the Washington Monument. The entire program is sponsored by a church of less than 300 people, who set up a huge platform, bring in thousands of chairs, add the “Bill Gaither” sound system that is driven in the day before from Anderson, Indiana, meet for pre-dawn rehearsal at 4:45 A.M., and then bring in the day in a very glorious way (even the few times when it has rained). This setting was created by Bob Walters, former staff arranger for the U.S. Air Force Band (Ret).
