This was originally arranged as a SOLO for Jerry Rodgers, who for years was the main Clarinet Soloist in the Marine Band performing all over the world and at many White House functions. Jerry lives in Florida and now contracts the Christmas orchestra for Disney World for their 85 December performances.

There are 2 live SOLO recordings of this arrangement besides the computer version of this setting for Brass and Piano that is included here. One was recorded by Ann Hodge on oboe, and her version is heard on the Woodwind and String titles (505009). Charles Peterson recorded this as a SOLO on his Trumpet Album and his version is heard on the Brass titles (505009).
This set of parts is the 5 part Brass Ensemble version of this title (505806). Another version exists for Violin Trio (507731 – Med-Adv). These versions follow the same piano accompaniment and the same musical phrases as the solo versions of this title.
It would be possible to put any of these mentioned versions together.
A completely different setting of the hymn features Low Brass instruments with a lead for French Horn (or Trombone or Alto Sax). This lower brass sound is exceptionally warm, and a meaningful way of presenting the hymn at any time of the year. You can use only lower brass, but substitute parts are included for Saxophones or more Horns. The trumpet parts are incidental, but do add some color to some of the chords. The complete live recording will illustrate this at (507401).
