This is an advanced Piano Solo with accompanimental parts for almost any number of players (large groups or rather small ensembles). The piano solo stands alone, so any additional colors simply add to the effect of the music. The titles used are “Sound the Battle Cry” (an earlier gospel song) and “Onward Christian Soldiers”.
The pianist can make the solo as dramatic and virtuostic as desired. Large scale runs and arpeggiated passages permit making the piano solo as advanced as works for the soloist. At more moderate tempos, good students can make this a worthwhile solo to be played with any number of their student friends.
