A very unique instrumentation was used by the original performers of this Medley. The arrangement was commissioned by the Faith Baptist Academy in Frederick, Virginia by the director Greg Reed for a special instrumental ensemble of high school players - "Enduring Freedom".

Two major songs of the U.S. Army are included – “The Army Song” in a March style, and “Over There” – in a lyric, colorful style which can either remain in a march tempo, or as preferred by the director, played much slower and meditatively celebrating the honor of those who served their country at this time in our nation’s history. This center section uses rich harmonic structures, and is surrounded by the march sections with a big ending that might remind listeners of a little John Phillip Sousa. This work has been requested for repeat performances at the Pentagon, and at other official Washington functions.

The original version is presented here. Additional versions in which many substitute instruments can be used are also available. Even string orchestras or large ensembles of strings can play the marching flute parts on piano or synthesizer to emulate this original setting.

This is created by Bob Walters, formerly on the arranging staff of the U.S. Air Force Band in Washington.  The original instrumentation follows–
 Flute
 Bb Clarinets
 Bb Trumpets
 Horn in F
 Alto Saxophone
 Trombone
 Euphonium
 Tuba
 Marching Drums
